We've talked music, and I think movies... How about books?

I'm currently reading "The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran, it's amazing - not a long book, but it takes a long time to read because you want to keep stopping to think about things.

Also tops on my list are the "Master and Commander" series by Patrick O'Brien, and "The Warlord Chronicles" by Bernard Cornwell.

If you haven't read it already, "Born Fighting, How the Scots Irish Shaped America" by James Webb (yes the Va Senator). What's funny is in the book he speaks of being a Republican and how his Democrat family esp. an aunt in Arkansas despised that. Funny since he wrote the book he switched parties. Truly a great read esp. if you are of Scots Irish decent.

Cheers,

Mike

Salt: A world History by Mark Kurlansky

A very interesting view of how salt and the salt trade influenced the history of the world.

"The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" by T.E. Lawrence. It's a tough read, but amazing insight into events in the middle east 75 years ago that are still shaping world events.

I just finished that book and also recommend it.

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson is pretty good too. Its about the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago and a serial killer. Very interesting book.

Just finished "Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Survive" by Jared Diamond, a professor of geography and physiology at UCLA. Informative, insightful examination of cultures like the Maya, Anasazi and Greenland Norse - with parallels to modern societies like Australia - but a 'feel good', summertime book book, it ain't, 'cause everybody dies....

The Grapes of Wrath - Steinbeck.

Timely.

If you haven't read it in years, pick it back up.

"The Creative Soul: Art and the Quest for Wholeness" Lawrence Staples

Cheap plug for my father in law. He is a Jungian Psychoanalyst trained at the Jung Institute in Switzerland. I really dig his perspective. If you are in to this sort of thing you will enjoy it.
