How noisy are these tires?
I've heard awesome things about these tires for off road, but i need to guage the noise for everyday driving.
I've been considering buying 16" steel wheels in order to get a better tire selection.
I currently have standard 18" Hurricane wheels with BFGoodrich Deuler AT's.(stock tire)
I had another thread asking about opinions between the BFGoodrich TA/KO's and the Nitto Grapplers, but if go to 16's it's really to get the MTR's on board.

Thanks

I was also doing tire research recently and I found that there were many comments saying that the Geolander MT had similar capabilities as other MT's but was much quieter (for a MT tire). I almost went for them but I did a sanity check in how I actually use the truck and bought some Nitto Terra Grapplers. A lot of the guys with 18's go with these tires too...

I have the Goodyear MTRs on my J#$P Wrangler. They are noisy, wear quickly, and cup easily unless you are religious about your balancing and rotating. Just my opinion, but I think they are incredible for offroad performance. They cut through snow and dig like crazy, while still sticking to slickrock like glue.

That may have something to do with your location. Lots of folks out west swear by 'em. But I haven't been too impressed w/ their performance in the mud here in the east. They don't seem to self-clean very well & turn into donuts more quickly than BFG-type tread patterns.

Fair enough - I would believe that. Also, never have run them on the disco so can't say how wheelbase and weight difference will effect my opinion.

BFG is a far superior tire. GY make some of the worst tires known to man. i put them in line with Procomps. there is a reason Jeep dumped them on the Rubicon.

My Goodyear wranglers have been pretty good replaced them when I could not afford the replacement for the Michellins.

I've got 'em on my DII currently. I have 23k on them so far and should get at least another 15-20k out of them if I want. Here in Colorado they work great in the rocky terrain and I was pleased with them this past winter in bad weather, which we had plenty of. As a new tire they are fairly quiet but as they wear I am noticing that they are getting louder, particularly at highway speeds. As far as mud goes, I had this tire on last summer when I was on an off-road trip and spent the the weekend in rainy muddy conditions. As stated above this is not a good mud tire but we do not encounter to many of those conditions here in Colorado. My only gripe is that I had a hard time finding someone who could balance them well, I have heard that this is a common problem with this tire. As for comparison to something else, I can not tell you. My last three sets have been this same tire (2 sets on a jeep wrangler, and this current set). That being said, the positives to me outweight the negative. I probably will run them again when it is time to purchase.

They're definitely quieter than BFG MT KMs. I have a set of each and the GYs ride smoother and quieter... but then again they should since the MTR is not a mud terrain tire.

I practice internal balancing - whenever the wheel weights fall off, I don't bother having them put back on. I don't have any balance issues after that.

GY MTR is a really aggressive AT tire. Depends on what you do. For rocks they are good because the lugs are seperate enuf to allow some grab, where as say a BFG AT the tread is very close together and you don't get grab, more like slicks.

I am running a procomp xtereme terrian tire now, again more of a really really aggressive AT, they have impressed me on rocks and hold 9 psi of air really well. They are fucking loud on the road though.

so it comes down to, it's all relative to what you wheel. BFG MT is a classic.

GY MTR's suck, I have a set I'm about to replace. Or at least for east coast off road stuff...

On road they are quiet when new but by the time they are down to 30% tread they are fairly loud. But from my experience they are easy to balance and they wear okay (you can get around 30K out of them if you keep the truck aligned well and keep them balanced and rotate them). They ride well and handle well even when its wet and on the interstate.
But off road they preform like AT's. They do okay in everything but mud. They won't clean out. The only thing I can say is good with them for off road is they are strong.

But they are way over priced, I would not recommend them. I would go with Interco TrXus MT's or BFG MT's over GY MTR's...

But that's just from my experience in east coast type stuff, they might do better on the west coast...

I had the GY MTRs on my rangie before I sold it. They were great, didn't seem noisey but I only had them on for a few thousand miles before I sold it. Also I only paid a $100 for five of them that were almost new. Probably wouldn't have gone that route at full retail.

Love My BFG MT on the disco.

Just another opinion:)
