Not available at this time... Anyone have the .exe they want to send my way? brciatn at hotmail dot com.

If I read correctly Google Earth Plus integrates with your GPS. Does that mean the Google Earth map will be the map used by the GPS. Would blow MS Streets to shit I would think. You would have full color topo map while traveling. WOuld probably require one helluva laptop to run though.

:D

Bri,
I wore Keyhole out for a week.... nice program, has some things that World Wind is still rough on, but are being addressed in upcoming releases. The thing I really likes about it over WW was the Tiger data overlay, but the thing I really didn't like was not being able to control it with the mouse on the globe itself, you had to use the function panel to do some of the rotation/angle settings.... so, for now, I'll stick w/ WW, but, I'll watch Keyhole too, see if it improves too, and then use whichever is best at the time.... ;)

I knew you'd come around. :D

I have not tried the latest WW again and since this stuff is really just playing for me and I have too many projects going on, it will be a while. My buddies over at keyhole supposedly made out like bandits though when bought by google. They really are imaging experts as well as experienced in realtime, 3D, streaming and paging techniques. They used to do all the stuff in realtime, now they are just doing it more for the masses and over the net instead of live on a graphics server. The software should remain first class as well as keeping a good pace with thedir new developments.

lol....

The things that World Wind have as a problem over Keyhole was:
a) initial download size (180mb versus 30mb). Reason for the difference is that WW included the base globe imagery instead of serving it... the next version will be available w/o it and will let it be served to it, or, you can still download the default data with it.
b) CPU time: right now WW is a hog, even if running in the background; the beta version has fixed a lot of that so that it won't hog resources if you're not actively using it; as soon as 1.3.1.1 is replaced, that won't be an issue anymore.
c) I like the floating compass card, nice for a quick ref (I leave the lat/long data showing on WW, which includes a heading, but the visual is nice). Someone has added one as an add-on, though, so, I guess it shows you how much I care if I haven't added it yet.
d) Tiger data has to be added on, it's not already included
e) higher-res screen-captures. WW literally does a screen-capture; Keyhole has, in addition to the screen capture, a higher-res image generation (supposedly coming in WW later)
f) built in print functions

I didn't try the free version of Keyhole, I tried the $399 version.... like I said, the differences aren't serious enough to merit the price. I'll go back and try the free version once it's available again, and compare it against WW (which will always be free).

I still have to say, though, since I've gotten used to WW's mouse controls, I really prefer it over the way Keyhole's motion is controlled. And, I like WW's toggle buttons for flipping to topos or aerial photos or more detailed satellite images...

And, if you want something custom, you can do it in WW; and it might already have been done and downloadable....

I'll keep you posted as they both develop, see if anything significant changes....

It's been back for about a week. I've been using it a lot. I now know what all our neighbours' yards look like. :p It's also been helpful for locating buildings - I've used it to compliment Streets and Trips to plan some trips, as the photos make it easier to see the exact locations of stops.

Although it's the same as Google Maps, it's easier and faster to use, smoother (no constant reload), and has more features. For free, I think it's worth it! :)
