Greetings,
long time rover family mostly classics and a old series, we lost our classic in an accident and the wife is wanting a tad bit more room and we are now shopping for discos
the trucks we are looking at are 1995 se-7------1999 se7
we will do the standard poking around the trucks top to bottom just wanted to know any caveats to these rigs we should look for
Many thanks to all

Rust. Rust. Rust. Don't be afraid to pull up the carpets; front and rear in particular.

Maintenance records. The more, the better.

Spring to have an independent shop, preferably Rover specialists, go over the truck as if their mother was going to drive it from Barrow to Miami.

And check for rust.

It may take a little sifting the grain from the chaff, but doing a search on this forum for this topic should deliver useful information. This subject has been discussed before, and problems that Discos had 3 years ago are no different from what you might expect today.

Another option would be to buy a truck from someone like Elias Christeas. He has posted a couple quality D1 specimens for sale here recently and they have sold fast. His trucks are uncommonly good examples, fairly priced, and coming from CA they don't have rust. It might be worth your time/money to buy a truck from him and have it shipped to you or drive it back to ME yourself. I know him personally, have bought many parts from him, and I think you'll find his standing in the Rover community is beyond reproach. If I were to buy another Disco this is how I would go about it.

Look in the Trucks For Sale section and you'll find some recent D1s he's offered.

If you talk to him please remind him to return my Union Jack flag, ski pole, and tie down straps to me.

i was exactly as you were, only land rovers that were REAL rovers to me where series landies. its all i had and drove. anyway hard times cam apon us and the hose and shop with the collection of series went to a good home, ... we made a cross country move and tuffed it out. so after the turbo subaru sedan blew a transmission i find a disco for 600 bucks, its no starting, but rust free and all there, off the the store to buy a crank position sensor. change it in the guys driveway and tell him to start her up. and away i go, GOODBYE charlie i wave and havent looked back.
disco has now grown on me! so i think there are good buys out there. look for one from out west and drive or ship it home. next station stop i will be purchasing an other cheep disco tearing the discovery body from her and adding a nice series body in its place. just cause i cant be with out that goddam series grin !

It's a peculiar collection, to be sure. All stuff that I left behind in his truck after the Baja 1000 last year. I tied the Union Jack to the ski pole to signal where the pit crew was stationed along the course. As for the tie-downs, they were used purely for "practical purposes".
