Yes, I do remember Europa Motors. Contacted them in 1996 before buying my first Discovery. At that time, they were asking $125,000 before taxes for a G-500 imported and brought up to federal standards to make it legal. Corrected for today's value and that's, what, 200% of a new G-500 now?

it always is an interesting topic when you start discussing the hybrid aspect.

my 109 was completely rebuilt on a galv coil chassis and is based on 110 running gear.

the title shows the "343" designation serial number which is for the 1967 NADA 109.

as it started out being a legally imported 109, all the running gear changes made to it are perfectly legal.

Leslie mentioned an interesting point - getting the first title using just the serial number on the plate attached with screws to the bulkhead was pretty funny.

the DMV person kept looking for a VIN number and having just a ME bill of sale without any title also kept him guessing.

also as Paul mentioned, grey market cars hit their peak in the 80s. pretty sure RN brought over some 110s in the early 80s.

I had a 1994 LWB that was giving me unending trouble ranging from the EAS to and engine fire at 30K miles. I wanted to get rid of it in the worst way. There was a MB dealer in Rockland County, NY who was selling G-Wagens for Europa and I went and test drove a G320. It was quite a truck but is was $126K outfitted the way it was. Thank goodness I didn't go into hock for that truck. Like you mentioned, as soon as MBNA decided they needed a real SUV and not that silly ML, they decimated the market for used G-Wagens.

Hi,
My name is Liz White and I provide a locator service for Law
Firms, Insurance Companies, and Engineering Firms. I've been asked to
locate for photos and measurements a 1997 Land Rover Defender 110. The
vehicle in question was an import from Europe. I'm trying to locate one
for two engineers to do a vehicle inspection, photograph and measure to
figure out how the people in the accident received their injuries. We
will pay for the several hours use of the vehicle and get the owner a
rental car if necessary. We can also go to the vehicle if need be.
Please check you membership and see if anyone has a vehicle matching this
description. It can be a vehicle within the 1993 to 1997 year range.
You can contact me at 209-815-2224, 209-836-1029 or e-mail at

Thank you for your time.

Just a note I've posted before.........I could quite easily get an old landy in the UK and a newer crash damaged defender for example and legally register it on either chassis......normally you would want the newer chassis in the UK....as it would be worth more.

So now you have a legally registered 28 year old defender in the UK....

When you import this to the US you have broken no US laws......the truck is as per the legal documents.

But anyway.....I rather get a santana from Spain and have the steering wheel on the wrong side....

It saves asking the wife if anything is comming

Bingo ... provided you have the original V5 from the 83 defender and everything matches up you can "re-shell" an 83 with a 2007 shell and it's all legit.

Europa is still around as Europa G.Wagen but since MBUSA brought the g over themselves, they have moved the parts portion of the existing company to Euro truck and they still have sales in vehicles primarily the swb cabrio's that MBUSA does not bring over as well as a few consignment sales of 460 and 463 models.
