I've got a neighbor getting ready to ride the entire trail. For some reason, I'd never heard of it but now that I'm doing some reading, it sounds like it needs to go on my bucket list (for some period of time when I'm free for about a month). Has anyone here done it or know anything about it?

That was The Great Buffet Trail.

There was an article in the old Nat Geo Adventure mag that showed a couple doing it in a Wrangler. I used to have a link but have since lost it.

I have a copy of the original map/instructions that Land Rover used. If your friend doesn't have it, I can probably scan it.

I'd be interested in that too-guess you can't post it here, but if you can send it to ray.gerber(at)gmail.com it would be much appreciated.

By "ride" if you mean a mountain bike there was a documentary made "Ride the Divide " which is shown on the documentary channel
http://www.ridethedividemovie.com/
"An award-winning feature film about the world's toughest mountain bike race, which traverses over 2700 miles along the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains. The film weaves the story of three characters' experiences with immense mountain beauty and small-town culture as they attempt to pedal from Banff, Canada to a small, dusty crossing on the Mexican border."

and this is a great documentary. I follow the ride online every year. Matthew Lee is a legend and will inspire you to get out and do something awesome.

I do mean mountain bike. I also followed the ride this year. I'd love to see the film - where did you get to see it?

Tom Collins of Camel Trophy fame scouted the original route that Land Rover used for the Great Devide Expedition in 1989. I was fortunate to be part of the Land Rover Technicians Expedition that Tom guided and followed many parts of that route in 1990. Bad ass trip that I would love to do again.

Back in the USA; Rockwood, PA
still have the original VHS video of the trip plus the map, etc. that RRNA made available.

envelope has the RRNA Lanhan, MD address on it.

it is a cool trip as are the GDE RRs.

had a diesel 110 as support vehicle that just basically walked over everything.

Would anyone be willing to scan copies of their Great Divide Expedition stuff or sell any of it? I am happy to pay copying and shipping fees. Please let me know, I'm restoring GDE #76 and am trying to gather as much about the event as possible. Thanks!
