You should also look into Active Fuel Management - why run all 8 cylinders while driving? They're only needed when accelerating to speed, but when at highway speeds you should be able to "turn off" 2 or 4 of them and maintain speed...

VW's doing it in their 4 cyl engines now. I would think that a simple re-program of the ECU could reap a load of fuel savings there.

I wonder if it's trolling or he's being serious.

Not without the DMC flux capacitor conversion. The paradox is that you have to be traveling at 88mph for it to work, but you need all 8 cylinders operating to achieve that speed. Plus a long, straight downhill and a tailwind.
