I bet, would like to know your selection for an off the path local establishment for good NO food.

Just walk out and get lost. It works everywhere. If someone tells you where it's at the experience will be reduced. A good portion of enjoying a great "local" restaurant is in the finding of it. That's what people don't want to admit.

If the place was right next to your house, and done all up to look fancy and new, you wouldn't be nearly as impressed.

I had some of the best Chicago-style pizza I've ever eaten at a damned hipster joint in Roanoke, VA. That's funny, because they accidentally made a restaurant they wouldn't personally brag about visiting.

Silly hipsters.

Cheers,

Kennith

That's easy for you to say Jymmie. Living in New York City and all. I live in the middle of a damn corn field a fucking Burger King is like a 40 min. drive. Best food around here comes out of my wife's kitchen.

True, the food and pay are the only good things about living in NYC. That being said, I've been all over country and there are great places all over. One of my favorite burgers in VA is from a gas station/garage.

Notice you didn't have much to say about Mother's. One of the gals behind the counter got on me for wearing my Carolina Panthers pullover about a year ago. We razz each other every time I go now.

Sorry, typed in a hurry earlier!

Mother's is okay, I prefer Parasol's, it's more of a local hangout, dive type bar/ restaurant. Our friend Mike owned The Sammich, which was hands down my fave little hole in the wall, but he was far UGD and was hard for most people to find. He closed last fall, and took over Mannings. I am going back to Nola in a couple weeks and will see what he is doing with the menu there because his duck poboy, and duck debris fries were the most delicious treat. Atchafalaya is great for brunch, and any Besh Group restaurant is delicious, along with Donald Link's places, and Sucre on Magazine is my fave for macaroons. One Besh owned place that is fairly new and is amazing is Willa Jean. Kelly Fields is the head chef, and the pastries, breakfasts and adult slushies are to die for. Commander's Palace is also a must at least once on a visit, and Dooky Chase is always good too.

but like many local-type establishments, most are only referred to as good because people refer to them as good. It's just an infinite loop that doesn't go away.
Case in point, BBQ places in Austin have this running wild. There's a few places that have so much hype and their food is nothing special in the least, most notably the downtown joints it makes you angry that you got suckered. They're in prime location for the crowds, have the "you need to get there before they sell out hype" and the food is constantly ho-hum. Its more of a bragging stance for some people that they went and stood in the line for 3 hours, rather than go there for the actual food. If I'm going to to wait 3 hours in line for your food, I better weep the tears of Jesus the entire time I'm eating it from the mouth-gazm I better be having.

I call BS. Didn't you mention in the MTB thread that you live in Hebron? It's a 15 minute drive from Lake Geneva. There are plenty of decent restaurants there.

That's true. Gino's east is a good one. How do you know about this? I didn't think anybody ever heard of Hebron.

Filtertek in Hebron used to be a customer of mine.

Gotcha , They threatened to pull out of town when a gravel pit went in pretty close to them. They said the dust was going to cause problems with some of there operations. Don't think they ever did and the contracted run of the pit is about over. We'll see if we ever get the lake promised to us.

This is great information, I'll have to keep it in mind on my next visit. Thank you.
