I just installed one of these in my 04 D2 and am quite pleased with the results. I hooked my XM radio up to an AUX input, no more dicking about with the FM transmitter when away from home. 32GB USB stick to store my music on and Bluetooth for my phone.

Observations;
  • Bluetooth works great, can listen to XM or USB and a phone call mutes volume, same with directions etc.
  • double tap SCAN to activate Siri for voice dial, directions, play specific song over Bluetooth etc.
  • press and hold SCAN to activate RND (random mode, ie. shuffle), didn't see this in the Disco Manual. Cancels when you change disc (USB playlist)
  • Connection wire from GROM is too damn short. I wanted to mount this somewhere accessible in case I wanted to reconfigure what I had connected. I could barely get it under the steering wheel, had to cut a square in the styrofoam to mount it. Another 10-12" on the wire would help, I wish I had lengthened it before install.
  • USB will actually take 10 playlists, with zero as 10, but since there is no 'next disc' control you can only get there by advancing through the tracks
  • tracks do not play from USB in the order you see them on your PC, GROM have a sort utility that did not work for me but they also link to DriveSort, which is free and works well
  • steering wheel controls work for track select on USB and Bluetooth
  • SCAN doesn't actually do anything in USB mode and the 'config file' GROM offers does not seem to affect it

Question;
Is there a way to restart a CD from the beginning without going back through the tracks? The USB mode remembers where you were so if you have a few hundred songs in a playlist (virtual CD) it isn't easy to get back to the beginning. When you change discs it picks up where you left off. My stock CD changer died years ago and I can't remember if it ever had that ability.

I played around with this a bit more, SCAN cancels if you press < or > on the deck or the steering wheel, but if you leave it alone it does whatever the value in the gromusb2 config file says when it gets to the end of the current track. You can set the value to skip 10, 20 etc, or enter 'd' and it will skip to the next playlist and start at the beginning.
