You can buy aftermarket cats on ebay for 35 bucks and it costs about 50 to get an indy exhaust shop to weld them in. If you old cats are just ratteling and not hallow i will buy them from you for 50 bucks each so you will end up not having to much in the replacement. And mother earth will love you.

Marty - I'll keep your offer in mind...they aren't hollow that's for sure.

I've also thought of another ultra low-tech solution for now: Take a sheet metal screw of sufficient length and twist that sucker in. It only rattles when warm, which of course is when the wife is in line at Starbucks and they think she's in a diesel. (nevermind all the "mother earth" issues related to Starbucks, etc!)

That's absolutely worth a shot, I have seen it done on rattly cats and mufflers, too. Get a long drywall screw and have at it. You have nothing to lose. Certainly a treehuggier solution than gutting it out, too.

Ok, well, I gutted the cats on my motorcycle back in July... yes, my Kawasaki had cats in it.

It added about 9rwtq when I had it dynoed and about 2-3 hp. I know that's not much but it's a 953cc inline four and I could tell a big difference in the performance of the bike. That being said, my bike does NOT have O2 sensors.

Moving to O2 sensors, my buddy has an 03 Cobra that's slightly modded, soon to be heavily modded, he has an off road x pipe with no cats, his O2 sensors have been tuned to be turned off. Same thing with my buddy and his 04 GT.

If you get rid of the cat, you might need the O2 sensor turned off, on a Mustang you use a Superchips XCal2 tuner, but on a Land Rover, I don't know.

Good luck and you don't have to worry about me ratting you out to the EPA, hell I'll show them what I did to my cats on my kawasaki, I justify it cause I wanted more power and aftermarket bike pipes have no cats.

I pulled the cats out of my 92's y-pipe, got pipe welded in their place and put one magnaflow high flow cat that runs about 35.00 after the y-pipe. I passed emmisions like this and have no problems so far.
