Is that the campsite or just the meeting place?
I believe that's the campsite.

Something has come up and I won't make it up there. Looks like great weather today!

Sorry we skipped out....too many things to try and do on Saturday and by 6pm or so we decided to just stay around home. Ivan taught me how to fly fish instead and it was great!

Hope ya'll had a great time!

Oh it was great. Sorry you guys didn't make it. Noe, Jason Bard, Daniel and Walter all made it up there. I blew out a panhard bushing and Daniel and Jeff Bang saved the day with a spare off a parts truck.

Abundant wildlife! We saw a black bear on the way up to FR85. I got cursed out by a very ticked off chipmunk. Several deer, inluding one who decided that he lived at our campsite and wanted to hang out.

Then there were the unusuals...

Yesterday on the way down between Meadow Knob and Flagpole, I saw a mountain lion. It was small, I'd say 60-70 lbs. It was standing perpendicular to the trail with its shoulders down low stalking something. Looked at me and dove into the brush. We pulled up slow to the place it left the trail and it was long gone. I got out and cautiously looked around but was so busy making sure I didn't become Friskies Buffet I came within about four feet of stepping on this...

Woo hoo! Snakes are out EVERYWHERE right now! That is exactly why Ivan said he wouldn't take me fishing in the mountains. Not worth the rattle snake (or copperhead) bite! lol

I'd love to see a mountain lion in the woods. I've seen a few bears in my life, but never a big cat. That would be awesome.

I photographed a deer and a rabbit hanging out eating in our backyard the other evening...was just like Bambi the movie!!

Glad you had a fun time!

LOL, Ivan doesn't believe you saw a cougar!! He doesn't think they are really in Virginia yet.

From an article I read online:
"Mountain lions tend to divide people. You either are a believer or scoffer. There isn’t much middle ground. It’s the same with UFOs." :)

They're here. Cougars have been spotted numerous times in Crotez, in town and been captured on film. Believe what you want, but they're making a come back.

A few years back, a dude claimed to get a shot of a black panther up on Skyline. WHile this is a dubious claim, others have reported seeing black panther. Could be bear, though.

Ask any of the park guys up there when there are not a lot of people around, they'll tell you about the cougars.

I believe it...and they are definitely in West Virginia. Not so sure about the black panthers. Although with the number of exotic animals bought and sold as pets, it is possible there are some living in the wild here as well!

One of the guys who built our house had a picture of one he had seen a few years ago...Ivan just needs more convincing!

I'm with Ivan, I've been hearing that Urban Legend for years, even one of the guys I hunt with claims to have seen the black panther.

Ivan told me last night he heard there was a Sasquatch running around Crozet a few weeks ago...he was spotted in one of the local bars!

;)

It was a she. Walter has her caged up at his house now.
