Hail Damage

Sooo, I ran out yesterday afternoon to run a few errands and about 10 minutes into it the weather went to shit, the skies opened up and it started pouring. Pulled over to avoid the mess on the road, then the wind picked up (strongest gusts I have been in) and then came the hail. The latter molested the truck for about 5-10 minutes. So, to avoid a long story, got a few small dings on the hood and the roof (09 Ram 1500). Called insurance company to have it looked at by a local recommended shop. My question is, anyone have experience with getting this stuff fixed? Not sure what they can do, since the dings are small, and some are on the crease lines.

I had a few dents in my car after the massive hail storm two Octobers ago. I didn't want panels repainted, so I got State Farm to agree to a paintless dent guy at a highly rated body shop. He did a fantastic job and I only had to pay half of my $250 deductible.

When there is a big hail storm the paintless dent guys will show up in massive numbers in tractor trailers that rival nascar teams setups. I've had my BMW done on a few spots. A real pro like the guys that travel and do it chasing hail will blow your mind what he is capable of. Unless the paint is cracked I bet he can get anything out.

I've seen a guy come in on a car that was totaled or soon to be by the insurance company for the massive estimate by the body shop. He offered with his estimate that if he couldn't remove every dent the owner would pay nothing to avoid the car getting totalled after the fact and he did his thing and car looks perfect afterwards. Don't get it painted unless you have to IMO.

Good point on the paintless dent removal. Will see if I can go that route, since the paint is not chipped but in a couple of spots.

My mom's D2 got it bad in last years hail storms here in Knoxville. She had the hood done at The Dent Station (paintless dent removal) and it looks dang good, and was a lot cheaper than a replacement hood and painting, et al.

last Sunday, not today, I was making an emergency generator delivery run to help put some family in southeast Ohio. Near Washington Courthouse I got caught in a hailstorm that was awesome. The shit was coing down like rain and was the size from marbles to softballs....For the most part I was able to get under some protective cover but the other fools in the storm with me were parking on the roadway (US 35). So being the nice guy i am I move on into the storm. This was amazing, no not the storm just the dumbasses parking under the overpass in the roadway.

The Lou!
I hear a lot of the PDR guys are really good. Not that I would know cause I'm still waiting for my car to be repaired from our hailstorm in early MAY!!! Grrrrr

New roof for the house on the way, one car totalled, the other on the verge of being totalled (so I may cash out and trade it in). Anyone wanting to buy a Scion that runs great with lots of hail damage gimme a shout. :)

Dayum, some thread resurrecting going on here. Well, as far as the particular truck, they replaced the hood (too many dings to fix) but did fix everything else all over the truck and you cannot tell it ever got hit with hail. Not a 100% what technique/technology was used but the shit worked.

Paint-less dent removal is like some kind of magic. An ugly fairy shows up with a bunch of funny sticks, molests your vehicle, and it looks new again. That's all you really need to know about it.

It's really just proper body work, in the end. It seems strange because you don't often see it these days, but these guys are always running around; mainly to car dealers and body shops, where a guy will charge you $1,000 for a job, after he paid the the PDR man $100 to do it.

Cheers,

Kennith

LOL. I read about the different techniques. Seems like the hood might not be that hard, but I was wondering about the roof.

About the resurrection of the thread. It not even a year! And hey, you can't give me shit for not searching.:D

Not sure what specific technique was used, but as i mentioned earlier, there were a ton of dings all over the truck. It is good as new now. So all in all, paintless dent removal works great.
