I'm getting well down the list of things needing done on the DII, and yesterday went out to adjust the hand brake cable. No good deed goes unpunished.
When I tried to unscrew the window switch panel from the console I found that two of the four plastic "ears" with speed nuts into which the screws are mounted were broken, and a third broke as I was taking it apart to get to the hand brake cable adjustment wheel.
More great Land Rover design. Why have the panel mounted to such flimsy plastic. Arghhh!!! I ended up holding the panel in place with some peel and stick Velcro strips.
Once I got access to the adjustment wheel I found it impossible to turn by hand. I was able to turn it bit by bit by catching its lobes with a long screwdriver. More great design. At least the adjustment wheel didn't break when I was turning it, but I did almost accidentally pop off the C-clip on top of it. That would have been no fun to get back into place.
