94 D1.

Ok, the mechanical advance seemed not to be working on the car and I appear I was correct as the weights are solid.

Anyway, my Q: The weights should come back by the springs alone correct? Also, the weights are IN when its off - hence centrifugal advance ..correct?

If that is correct, then, are there spring underneath that I can't see? Or is is that they are so gummed they just don't want to come back, or is there something else I am missing?
I have cleaned, lubed, stroked in/out (we are still on the dizzy weights here - stay with me), and the weights still get stuck out and I have to bring them by hand.

Thoughts? Keep cleaning?
Whats up with these things?

Ok, well took the dog gear off....pulled the shaft, and upside down, finally got the top part free so the weights fall back with the spring tension. Cleaned, lubed, cleaned, lubed....and now seems to return freely. Seems you get crud in there, and it binds. Not having off road cars before, this one is quite a treat. Looks like it was full of muddy water at one time. There are weep holes in the bottom of the dizz....for those planning on becoming submariners - probably not a good idea!

Phase 1 complete. The Vacuum is screwed I assume, so after the rebuild of the rest of the dizz, thats next.

Well, turned out, when you suck on the vacuum, it just hisses inside the dizzy. So thats shot too. MMMMM.....We had zero advance, hence the reason I had the car at 19deg BTDC to get it to run properly.
So tomorrow....will require:
New Rotor Cap
New plastic shield....maybe if I feel like it
New vacuum advance.

Then should be as new...well as close as you get with a 94 diz.

I am using assembly lube, then switched to air tool oil as its thinner....which got it going. I am probably going to have to switch to something for high temp. I was going to use my trumpet oil or some sort of thin sex lube to get it going, then clean it and relube. But its going now....I just need some other bits. Then will git er done tomorrow.
Any lube recommendations?

One more Q:
Any advice on Vacuum advance cheapo replacements? NAPA, Kragen, Detroit, German, Italian, Japanese? Or just go get a British part again? I did read a thread on one from a mercedes that fit. Any thoughts guys?
BTW...will post up pics, but they are more crap from my phone.

Well its all working well now, mechanically. I have a spare if needed off another rig and can't afford a switch right now. Unless its less than the price of a rotor and a VA regulator?
