Getting ready to put ARB lockers in my 00 D2 and was looking forward to using the compressor to inflate my tires but was told to put in a HD compressor instead of the ARB version but wanted to get the Dweb opinion. I run 33" BFG MT's.

Thanks!

I use a 12v air compressor from Harbor Freight that was about $60, it is going to be plumbed into a 5gal tank, I'll post a build thread when I do it.

How would you go about getting the V-belt set up?

If you don't have ACE, I would think there could be a way of mounting it in place of the ACE and use an ACE equipped belt. Where there's a will there's a way.

Cheers,

Mike

Local shop is brainstorming. The Ace idea is sounding better and better all the time. They are checking with some of the Aussies as we speek. Any othe ideas? One guy I know is running the trails with an old SCBA cylinder. He swears by it.

Only diff is i have 2 Compressors filling the tank. Your gonna want to use copper tubing between the compressor ans the tank as the compressors get HOT. I love it when the PowerTank guys come up to me at the end of the day and ask to use my air because there tank is empty

Where did you source the tank from and what type of compressor are you using? Thanks.

Any decent Automotive A/C shop should be able to convert an A/C compressor for you to use as an aircompressor. Then go to a junk yard and get one or two air tanks from a truck and plumb them in. Don't forget a relief valve and pressure switch.

I bought an air tank for a Range Rover Classic off Ebay for $20 - it's about a two gallon tank and has a neat little set of ribs on the bottom to act as a skid plate. I use a Puma type air compressor that I bought at last years MAR to fill it. Its a lot heavier duty than the ARB compressor setup. I also have everything plumbed up with Swagelok fittings.

Yes, the ARB pump takes a long time to fill 4 tires to 30psi. I hook mine up and walk away for awhile. I keep a guage in-line so that I can see at a glance that my pump takes forever! :) Actually, it keeps me from having to unplug the hose each time I want to check the pressure.

Now, I've noticed ARB sells different compressors. The faded sticker on mine says that it has a 50% duty cycle = slow! Maybe the ones they have now are better, but if you have the dough, go big.

I'm only hanging in there with the ARB pump as it was on the Disco when I bought it. One day I'll get a CO2 tank or a better air compressor though. After awhile (e.g. watching everyone else air up and leave after a run way before I'm even close to being done airing up), it gets a bit old.

Andy, if you want to see how slow it is in person, come on by the house. :)

.

This is really what I wanted to avoid, if I'm buying a compressor anyway why go with a weak one? I have a powertank but after airing up tires and of course my friends tires there ain't much left after a few trails. Jimmy, I want to see you do some more wheelstands.:applause:
