I searched but turn up anything definitive about my question.

I have the heated windshield and the relay is there but I don't have the switch in the dash. Can I just add the switch for this?

I did see an forum post about having to get the computer set to use it. True?

Apologies as I don't really know and am just guessing...

When I press the defrost button on the climate control, it activates the window defrosters automatically. Perhaps that is why the computer needs to be set?

I.e. maybe it will work fine with switch install, but need computer adjustment to get climate control integration?

I added the switch, relay, and glass to my 03, then I re-programmed the computer. The screen WOULD turn on automatically when you turned the defrost on, but you could also turn it on manually just by pressing the button. Mine wouldn't turn on at all without the programming, but I'm not sure what would happen if you turned it on in the computer, but didn't add the button.

This might be the case with mine. I was really asking because I looked at a early 2000 and it had the switch in the dash and it got we wondering.

P.S. I don't have the 1999 owners manual.. :( Rave does, I will check that.

I added heated windscreen to my 99. Switch in the dash and enable the option in the becm via t4 or whatever. I think I used the handheld t4. The wring should be there behind the switch holder in the dash. I did not work until I programmed it.

I believe the 2003 and 2004 Discos need the switch, relay and BCU re-programming to enable the heated windshield.

The Disco 1s will work automatically if the switch and relay are added. I understand the Disco 1 and Disco 2 relays are different.

99-02 is still a d2

Yes what you said is correct and applicable to 99-02. I did this.

Yep, all D2 are pretty much the same as far the the BCU is concerned. There are two part numbers, but one just addresses an issue with the alarm system going to sleep in areas with lots of RF interference.

After reading the manual online, pinkytoe is correct. The front windshield heater will turn on with defrost button on the hvac controls.

I still would like to instal the button for this, I see if I can round one up from a scrapper.

iirc mine did not turn on until i changed the setting in the BCU. i do not know if it will operate without the switch though, i assume it will but you wont know it is on as the switch has a red led like the rear defrost that lets you know.

edit, now that i think about it i may have added a relay into the spot under the hood. this was 5 years ago so...

I'm in the process of doing this as well but not sure what relay to buy and where under the hood it goes, I'm guessing R8 but need someone to confirm.
04 D2

Thanks in advance
