Heater core pipe replacement

I just replaced my heater core in my 03 D2 bit was only able to get one of my two heater pipes to snap back into the core.

The upper pipe is 1/8” too short and all of attempts to tug/pull/bend seem to do nothing. It seems that the pipe bent and won’t go back.

Question: what is entailed in replacing the heater pipe under the dash? I see Atlantic British sells new ones… does the entire dash need to come out or is there an a simpler method?

I did this 20 years ago in a D1. Connection between core and pipes was too difficult. I was forced to take pipes out, to connect them and after that to fix them in their supports. In order to do this i toke whole dashboard out. Many people do get hoses and modify connectors in order to bypasss tubes. This makes operation easier. In this case they only loose lower dashboard supports & pull a little bit to access to heater core.
