Hella Lights Help Requested

Thank you in advance.

I have two issues that are related but mutually exclusive. I've searched the threads and have not read an answer that specifically details the issues I’m working through.

I've installed 2 sets of Hella Black on my roof rack. The primary issue is with the Hella switch which always illuminates an off/on light when the ignition is off. I'm concerned about running down the battery.

Presently the lights are wired through a relay which is connected to the positive terminal of the battery.

Issue #1. Is there a better place to connect to the power than the positive terminal of the battery. I've read that people have connected to the “aux fuse box” but there were no specific details. What is the best way to wire to 12v power that's connected to the ignition switch>

Issue #2. I attempted to use the stock Land Rover fog light switch which has 4 wires going into 5 terminals (see attached).
  1. power in from relay
  2. illumination indicator in
  3. mt
  4. ground
  5. power out to relay to lights
I replaced the #1 and #4 with the power in/out from the Hella relay.

The normal functionality is that the switch will only work if the brights are on. If the brights turn off, the switch also turns off.

This switch icon (see attached) does not have a #2 on it, like some I have seen, but instead has a “headlight” with the 3 horizontal beams and a squiggle vertical line (indicating fog I guess), and facing left.

I also have an unused switch with an icon which also doesn't have a #2 on it, and has a “headlight” with the 3 horizontal beams and a squiggle vertical line (indicating fog I guess), and facing right.

What are these switched and are they different?
Specifically, how do you utilize the Land Rover switch so that you can turn on the lights regardless of the brights?

If you can offer me any assistance, I would be much appreciated.

Thanks a ton! This doesn't cover the issue of the ignition hot power source in the hood area but I this isn't an issue as long as the switch is wired correctly. Thanks a lot, this was very helpful!
