Help needed. 1995 discovery owner have problem

Hi, I just pruchased 95 discovery with a good price. but, problem is, this car could not pass smog test. Because of electrcal problem. When I bought this car on early last week, I found 'service engine' signal is on always.( 11000 miles run ) Former owner told me that it might be minor problem.
Anyway, I took this car to local repair shop. But, what they told me that they can't check the problem of this car. Becasue, they do not have both a machine can check the what the problem about this car and they don't have service manual. Landrover company does not easily release service manual to local shop. He recommend to take my car to Dealer. But, I do not want to go there. Because, I know they charge a lot of money for it.
Next thing he recommend it to find any info. about self-diagonostic, and trouble code identifications, and bring this copy to him. Then he can find out problem about my car.
So, here ire my questions.
1. Anyone knows what is the problem ofr my car ( car is nothing wrong with it beside this problem.)
2. Does anybody knows where I cound find downloadable service manual for my car.

the above post about reset is true but I think its for 96 onwards.... I have a 95 and the brown emision thing may be under the passenger seat with the display panel. The LR sticker covers a small hole, so I used a paper clip and shaped it so that it would bridge the contacts inside thus resetting the reminder..... after you reset the the emisions, don't forget to clear the display.

I did successfully reset and there is no service engine signal is on.
But, I do have two questions.
Is that any possibility the service engine signal is coming on again? just in case I bring my car to smog check again. if the signal is on, It will fail again..so..

Anther questions,
I if I don't see any codes on display. that mean there is no problem on my car right? ( Anyway, I did two to three times without the codes...sign )

It maybe ok now. Some codes cause it to go into limp mode which makes them rich. Typically rich runing will be related to either the Lambda sensors or temp sensor/ stuck open thermostat. Worst case leaky injectors or Airflow meter.

If it's actually the Service Engine, and not the Check Engine, it could just be the notification that it's time to take it in for something like the 90,000 mile service. (You don't say what the mileage on the vehicle is)
Here in Georgia, my '95 will pass the smog test with service engine lit, but not check engine. '96 and after won't pass even with service engine.

If I recall correctly the Service Engine Soon light comes on automatically ever 86k. (approx), so it will be back...just another way for the Dealership to accept more money for people who can not or will not reset it.

Sets off in order for you to do the emissions test of the system... Check Cats - O2 sensors - carbon canister and related items.

Normally doesn't mean much.
