Help on a GBR driveline install

Hey all,
So i figured out that my front end vibe when accelorating was my driveline. Picked up a GBR driveline, and installing it now. Now for my question, I assume that the double cardan joint goes next to the transfer case, and that the adapter plate bolts up there on the stock bolts.

I went ahead and started this way, but I noticed that the stock bolts going to the nylock nuts holding the adapter plate up there aren't quite long enough. Most of the nut is threaded, but it's just short of hitting the nylon part of the nylocks. I jiggled around the plate to make sure it was flush, and tightened it down the best i could... but it seems that nylon part should be hitting some thread?

Any suggestions? or am I doing this all wrong?

Thanks,
Ryan

Yeah, I saw the shafts page in the tech section... all it is is some pics of the drivelines, and I allready know what they look like. I also tried doing a search, didn't get anything. I considered trying the other way, but I know it's designed to go in a certain way, and I want it to go in teh way it's ment to go. The double cardan joint is suppose to be next to the transfer case, right?
Mine also looks like an easy install... I'm just concearned that the nylocks don't have enough bolt to lock in.

Yeah, thanks, I missed that line, but I did put it in right. Just went out and double checked, and everything is snug, the bolts just aren't long enough for the nuts to lock, but there does look to be enough to throw on some lock washers, and still grab plenty of thread. Has anyone else had to do this?

Thanks again,
Ryan

Don't know on the threads man. Just looked at mine and they're on all the way. The best person to ask is Bill.
Maybe other hardware was installed at some point on your rig.

You should have at least 1-2 threads protruding from the end of the nut for optimum strength. I would get some longer bolts personally so I'd be confident in the setup holding.

The GBR DC front driveshaft on my P38 RR did the same thing. Stock bolts just a hair short for the nylock nuts to the adapter, I put some blue loctite on them just in case and they have held with no problems. But I have had the bolts from the driveshaft to the adapter work loose. I just make it a point to check everything for tightness every once in a while.

I have been meaning to do this but...

how easy is it to do yourself? i did the 60K maintenance no problem, so i am mechanically inclined but.... never anything like this. Just wondering. thanks

Really easy, unbolt and remove old shaft, bolt on adapter plate to tcase output flange, bolt on new driveshaft. You should have no problem doing it.

Ryan-
Can you take a picture of what you have? The Nylon nut should grab more threads and as someone mentioned before, they should be sticking out of the other side of the nut. Are you certain the adaptor plate is on correctly?
Talk to Bill, he is very helpful. A picture of what you are working with will be very helpful.
