UPDATE:
First things first...it started!
I finally got under it and had someone turn the key to the on position and could hear the fuel pump start working. Once it stopped running, I started the truck and it fired right up.
Running a little rough, as you can expect. Top end quieted down after a minute or so. I saw a plug wire arcing and taped it up. Ran better, still.
I think now i'll just put the new water pump and fan on and give it a quickie tuneup.
There's something funny with my ignition switch (prob needs to be replaced.) Have to have it in just the right place to start. I think it might not have been allowing the pump to turn on like it should and pressurize the system.

the bike is a 1980 Yamaha XS850 triple in kind of the rat cafe style. I fitted a 2007 Yamaha R6-r front end on it. and stripped a lot off it. Modded the exhaust to 3-into-1.
I dig it. Opinions may vary...
