Help with Remote Programming

I'm trying to help a friend program an alarm remote control that he bought off of eBay. He's got a 96 Disco and the instructions that came with the remote looks the same as the one in the Tech Section in this site and says they're actually for 94-95 one button remote.

Anyone know any tricks or has done this recently? Trying to avoid the dealer as much as we can. TIA.

A '96 should have a two button remote which requires testbook or the like to program.

A '94 or '95 has a single button remote wich can be programed using the instructions in the tech section.

How many buttons does you friends "new" remote have?

I have the SAME problem.

I also bought a R.C. from eBay, ($25). I bought my 96 Disco 4 years ago and runs great, with 136,000 miles.

I read in a different tread that.."Standing near the Disco,
Push the lock button 4 times then push the unlock button once.
A warning on th epost that I found this said to only attempt this once (it worked the first time for me) or twice any more and you could screw up the program and have to take it to the dealer."

I'm afraid everyone is right. I have a 96 that had a really bad case on the remote. I got a new one off ebay. After trying every trick, I ended up just taking the case apart and switching the insides so I would not have to bring it to the dealer. I think they wanted $85. They do have free coffee though so that saves a few dollors over starbucks.
