04 D2. Major coolant leak coming from rear drivers side of engine, dripping off cylinder head. Can't pinpoint because can't see anything back there. Probed around with mirror unsuccessfully. My assumption is intake gasket failure.

Thinking it's time to pour in some stop leak, drive it to a Toyota dealership, trade it in, and cut my losses.

Miserable effing car!

A little more mirror probing, the bottom rear of head has an area in the casting that sticks out. I can see dripping off of that area. I flushed it with hot soapy water and can see coolant trickling from the corner where head meets block. I imagine it is coming from higher up but just can't get there with the inspection mirrors. I'm guessing previous owner added stop leak or something because it went from major drips to just a trickle running down the side of block onto the crank sensor area. Oil is not milky so that's a plus. Intake? Head gasket? Casting plug?

Intake gasket. Easy fix.

sweet. what time you coming over? I'll buy the beer.

Coincidentally, there's an 03 down the street. Leaks everything and everywhere apparently. He's asking 800.00. It runs and drives, no knocks. I think if I buy his and part out both I'll be a billionaire.

Nope, best bet at being a billionaire while regarding a Discovery ll...would be...

Loading up your rig on a trailer, buying a nice hefty sledge hammer, driving cross country and charging $1.00 per swing to past/present/future Discovery ll owners.

If it's the valley pan, not to bad...if head gaskets and you aren't mechanically inclined, not good.

Please head through St. Clair county first with your trailer...$20.00 guaranteed on the way to your billion...lol.

Brian.

Brian.

It's bad enough either way. Mechanical ability isn't the problem, inclination is another story. I've got the tools and the know how, I just don't have the time. My thought is if I gotta pull intake might as well do head gaskets since you're almost there anyway. In the meantime I gotta find something else for my daughter to drive.

I thought I bought a ride, not a hobby.

I thought I bought a ride not a hobby? That’s just funny. You bought about 3 months of “white hot” hatred and wondering why you voluntarily gave someone money for it. But do t worry, you will wind up purchasing another one first chance you get. I just assume that I will be doing head gaskets when I buy an older Rover. You will learn to work ahead of the curve and have a decent daily driver. At least that has been my experience. Welcome to the club 8 )
