Was wondering if anyone had a idea on mounting a hi lift jack on my disco II. I like the spare tire mounts but they are expencieve... I also have a ARB Bumper that i woudnt mind mounting it on....Anyway...What do you all think is my best and cheapest way to mount?

Yeah, I just took a quick look at the first two pages of the technical forum and didn't see the thread I was thinking of, but there was a pretty recent one on mounts. I think the thinking on spare tire mounts is that they put too much weight on the rear door hinges and are probably not a good idea. Of course that leaves you with other very expensive options such as getting some sort of roof rack (Kyle's backpack rack would probably be among the cheapest and coolest looking if you don't need a lot of storage).

Also, welcome to the forum. Where is Versailles in relation to Bardstown? My family is originally from out there, "bourbon capital of the world." :D

If you have an ARB front bumper, it very easy to build your own mount on the upper headlight brackets. You will need 2 - 6 inch pieces of SS threaded rod, 4 nylock bolts, 2 wingnuts, 6 2inch rubber bungs, & several SS washers. Mount the bolts to the upper headlight brackets with the nylocks, mount 2 of the "bungs" to raise the hilift off the bumper then set the last 2 bungs over the hilift with the washers & tighten down the wingnuts. If you want you can drill holes in the threaded rod & attach cables ties for security. Should be only a $40 investment.... works VERY nicely & cheap too.

How about a pic? I've got an ARB front as well and will do the same thing when I get the time.

A very simple "mount" that I have used for years:

Simply lay it on the floor behind the front seats and secure it to the tubing on the seat frames with a couple of strong 1" adjustable nylon straps with metal buckles. Lay it on its side with the lift jaw near the base plate and facing foreward, just inside the base of the driver's seat. It tucks in there rather nicely, and none of my rear seat passengers has complained about the shaft or handle intruding upon their foot room. Proper straps and lashing should secure it well enough in the case of a roll-over and it is out of the elements and out of reach of most thieves. If it is muddy from use, simply wrap it up in a small tarp before strapping it in. It helps to have a rubber rear floor mat. This puts the heavy jack at the lowest possible center of gravity as well.

Keep it simple,

Keep it clean

Thanks for the nice welcome and all of the great ideas. I think i like the "on the bumper mount" the best. It worries me about putting too much weight on my back door. Although i will be getting roof rack with in the next year so i think i will diff. mount it there when that comes in. Versailles is about 45 min away from where your fam is from....We should get together sometime and do some wheelin! Let me know....My Email is: WINCHESTER12GA@aol.com
