I have to spend $250 or lose it at an auto dealer. I have a 98 D1 that's running good so I'm thinking what parts should I buy that are probably going to fail down the road. I was trying to wait but they won't extend it any longer.

Radiator? Fuel pump? Etc or just get brakes air filters etc. Any help? I have to spend it by the 10/20.

$250 is not going to cover the total cost of a radiator or fuel pump. It probably won't even get you a set of 4 rotors. I'd opt for parts whose need for replacement is certain, rather than only likely. Brakes and filters are a safe choice.

I got a Radiator for around $200 as I recall. It's held up good for me so far. I don't sit in stop and go traffic or anything but it's run well on some 4 hour (each way) trips to DC on the Interstate and lots of stop and go short trips.

If you're concerned about your radiator I'd get a new one, or have yours rodded out, regardless of spending this $250. For your $250 I'd stock up on some oil filters, maybe new sprk plug wires and plugs - general tune up stuff to have in the garage, Fuel filter, oil pan gasket and drop the pan some day and clean it out, make sure it's true all the way around and reinstall, consumables like that.

Getting your Disco (or another car) detailed is also an option at most dealerships, assuming you don't need to spend it on parts... Otherwise, I'd be looking at something small I could flip on eBay for minimal loss.

From a dealership? I would be surprised if they had one at that price. AB offers an aftermarket option for $600. I've seen the aluminun/plastic ones on ebay for ~$230 but I can't imagine a dealer offering to order that.

I agree with the preventative maintenance on the cooling system. That - along with regular oil changes - is the single best thing you can do to prolong the life of your truck.

I'm trying to think about items that generally don't start out at an obscene price if bought at a dealer. Brakes perhaps. Starter maybe. Alternator?

You'd be surprised. A lot of dealers will do a "sublet service" where they basically upcharge for something they don't sell or don't do. For example a lot of dealerships will not install fixed glass, but they'll still take your money and call a glass guy to come and do it. Sometimes for not much more than it would cost to do it yourself, because they get a discount. AND the dealership will probably give you a loaner car and the glass guys probably won't.
