So I'm going for one last chance of getting my Hitachi compressor working well before I replace it with something.

I've got the Land Rover kit, part number JPO500010, which comes with a new exhaust valve plunger & spring, a new delivery valve & spring, new screws, and also a couple of o-rings.

the TSB shows using a two jaw puller to hold the cover on the exhaust valve cover plate before removing the screws. The spring in the kit doesn't seem to be all that strong. To people that have done this before, is it possible to do this without using a puller?

Yes but your going to need something, even just another person might do it. Its not so much how strong the spring is, but its long and hard to keep everything straight while starting the screws.

The last one of these I did, on my previous LR3, was a different part number and just had one of the valves and spring. I worked until it was dark outside yesterday or I would have attempted this yesterday. Maybe tonight.

It's weird it actually got a little worse after I replaced/rebuilt the dryer. It still pumps and builds good pressure up to about 1200-1300 kpa and then it slows down and throws the code for pressure building too slowly. I'm hoping the relief valve or delivery valve is why. Fingers crossed. I did up date to the latest hitachi software too.
