Put a motion sensor in the hallway in front of his bedroom door. You will know before he gets to the front door or anywhere you don't want him during the middle of the night.

You could get biometric locks that scan fingerprints. lot easier than a key to use in a panic if you need to get out.

Biometric access control devices aren't quite as reliable as they ought to be.

You'll still need to keep a key, which is a problem, because most of the time the biometric function will operate properly. That being the case, you'll lose the key, or at least fail to remember where it is when you really need it.

Some of them have feature cheap combination locks as well. Those tend to fail if left alone for too long, and many people forget the combinations.

If you want to secure your property against the sort of people that will actually try to break in, and still want to get out quickly, this is the best way:

In the centuries since it was invented, the great minds of our world have yet to invent a better solution.

That's not entirely applicable to the subject at hand, though.

Cheers,

I haven't done anything yet but I am going to get some individual sensors this weekend. I was thinking about it and I think it would be harder to get a broom, etc. to turn a sensor off than to turn off a keypad, and the iphone-based system will probably be outdated before it is out of the box as the phones update so quickly. I've also got the dog barking a lot more, including at people and other animals outside.

Getting somewhat off topic, since there was mention of friends and family with autistic kids, etc. I thought I would share this but it really deserves its own thread (I don't have time to go into detail but pm me if interested). Last weekend (after much research) we started my son on CBD oil (from hemp) and it has been remarkable! We haven't had a breakthrough like this since our diet change. Since starting he has slept all night every night, no sleepwalking, no night terrors, and no fighting bedtime! We've seen a lot more changes as well and I can't wait to see the long term neurogenesis effects.

That is great. I have heard good things about CBD oil and I am glad to hear a first hand positive experience. I have heard it can also help with pain & inflammation. I have some ongoing back pain that is due to an old injury. Would like to avoid surgery if possible, maybe i'll give it a try.
