I just took into my possession a free 2001 civic lx 4 door with a bad transmission in it. Car has 134,000 miles and the auto transmission just took a dump in it last weekend. It was my girlfriends car and she bought a new Hyundai and said I could just have the civic. Car is in great condition and ran perfectly before last saturday. Has every receipt for maintenance since new, and it has been very well taken car of

I got a quote for $1,500 for installation of a rebuilt auto tranny with a 6 month warrant from a place that specializes in Japanese cars.

So the question is... Is it worth putting a rebuilt transmission in this and driving it another 134,000 miles or as things just going to go downhill from here with the car? I don't know anything about Hondas other than everyone says they are reliable and it gets 40 mpg

Ok good deal. The timing belt was taken care of last summer, not sure about the water pump, I'll check the receipts

If the rest can be made good enough to hold up for that long, $1,500 is a pittance to pay for a good runabout that you won't have to bother with all the time.

If you like the car, and the rest of it will hold up, I'd do it.

Cheers,

Repair it! We have a 2001 Civic we bought brand new and love it. Has lots of miles on it and it should last us many more years. Also my wife had a 1980's era Civic that lasted forever. Good little cars.
