I'm Flirting with the idea..... The Element seems like it would do everything I would ask... Cheap to keep, and not give me the hassle the Rover does.

I like my Rover, but I could have bought a new Element with what I put into this 16 Year old truck. Nothing carved in stone, just flirting right now.

Of course, It is a nice Rover, with a SWEET center console. ;)

I love the FJ, but it's like $10,000 more. :(

Elements, for the price, seem a good value. Cheap to own, plenty of space for stuff and dogs. Its like a swiss army knife. :)

The Rovers oil pump coming apart was the last straw.... I'm really rethinking why I keep doing this to myself. :)

What exactly are you looking for in a new car?

My cousin has an element and isn't too happy with it. For a Honda it has had a surprising number of issues.

I like 4wd, but I really dont off-road all that much. My 4wd needs could be licked with a Element.
My dogs go with us everywhere... The Rover is good there, but an Element is so easy to clean.
Part avalibilty.... Advantage Honda.... Parts are cheap adn plentiful.

Rover... I left my gas cap at a gas station, $30/4 days later I got another in the mail.

Fuel Economy - 'Nuff said.

And, I am sick of throwing money, time and spirit at this thing. Once in a while is fun, but it's just out of hand.

What kind of trouble is he seeing in the Honda?

I have a co-worker who bought one. She bought it to take dogs to shows across the country. Within two months she sold it and got a minivan, but I am not sure why.

We had one and liked it a lot. Excellant in the snow with the limited slip or whatever is in the rear end of them. You can pretty much wash those things from the inside out and not hurt them. Our got totaled by a truck hitting us and we almost got another one but decided on the LR3 instead.

Mainly, hes had an assortment of electircal gremlins. Also know it needed a head gasket at 15K miles. I'll try to get in touch with my cousin tonight and see if I can find out in more details what kind of issues he was having with the Element.

I actually came Very close to trading my '96 on an Element when they came out b/c I too was fed up with the problems (at that moment in time) We started working numbers on the trade, and I thought of all the love I have for Ol'Drippy.. I just couldn't do it. Looking back, I would have been so disappointed if I had went and done it.. just really think it through.

On the other hand, my neighbor is a Honda mech. at the local dealer and said the main problem he sees are cracked windshields, didn't mention elec. or eng. problems.

Chris; My other car is a Honda Pilot that done 26k faultless miles in 18 months. Should hit 36k by the time its two years old.

The "E" as its known to its fans has grown on me. First service I was in for I looked at it and thought WIERD.

Next time I look at it I get it. Sign me up for one in about 7 years when the kids take the Pilot to college. That or the upcoming Honda Crossroad that isn't yet officially a US bound vehicle.

No not the rebadged Land Rover S1 Disco, but an entirely new animal Japan only for now.

I hated the appearance of the first few model years with the plastic body panels. But lately, I've been seeing newer models with all-steel panels: much better looking. And --- it's a Honda. Great quality vehicles, in my humblest experience.
