I've been using a Zodi Hot Tap for about 3 years and not had any issues with it. One wouldn't think that a pump running on 4 D-cells wouldn't be very effective, but it works fine, and runs a long time without replacing the batteries. But, if you prefer the stove top version and want to run it off a 12v battery, you can get a voltage reducer to go from 12v to 6v, or get Zodi part number 1093 or 1094, which are 12v pumps.

Thanks Tom, thats exactly what I was looking for.....but they are alot more expensice than I woulda thought.....perhaps I'll just give the 6v a chance as it comes with the setup already. If not sufficient then we'll upgrade later. Thanks!!

Last weekend in Vermont, I slept in the Disco in a WalMart parking lot and stopped at Mt. Philo state park the next day and paid $.75 for a 7 1/2 hot shower.
The next night I slept in the truck behind the fire hall in Jamaica, VT and washed up in the creek.

One can be made for cheep if you are handy. You will need a water pump for a rv $20-80 dollars on ebay. Copper tube and pvc pipe to make the heat exchanger. Garden house and a shower head. After you make the heat exchanger you splice into the heater houses on the truck and hook up the pump and water supply. If the engine is warm you will have a hot shower.

I bought one of the ones being sold here:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=68048 .
I haven't installed it yet, but the price is great and the installation seems pretty straight forward. I haven't found a better price for a heat exchanger with shower kit anywhere else.

I bought the hot water heater exchanger rather than the shower kit because the hot water kit allows for more heat and has a temp regulator valve.

I was in W@l-M@rt last night and saw the Zodi #6183 hot shower kit for $98.00, which is about $40 less than any place I have seen.
Good shopping,

I just bought a flat plate heat exchanger off Ebay for $90 - its a series of sixteen corrugated stainless plates that are vacuum welded together and the whole thing is 7" x 3" x 2" - they are a lot more efficient than the tube in tube type and take up a lot less space. I'll pick up a 12v RV type water pump and build a whole onboard system for less than $200. I will either build a shower enclosure that hangs off the back of the roof rack or get one of those shower tents and make a shower head tube that will clamp on the ARB brush bar - haven't decided yet.

I like the engine heat systems. It just uses something you have anyway, and in good supply. Sure it's expensive, but not all that bad. I was thinking of getting one. The only issue I have is putting something else in a car that can leak. I imagine they are pretty safe, though.

Cheers,
