Hi Guys,

been searching this forum but no straight answers:

I just bought a new Discovery 3 2009, with the regular sound system, no navigation.

The radio can be set to get the input from auxiliary, so i thought there is some input jack somwere ? I would like to plug in my ipod. I've read the user manual, no mention about auxiliary.

thanks for the help,

Hugues

Do you know where the heated rear seat buttons are? There is a black cover between them that flips up and underneath it is the aux jack and an extra power source. The aux jack takes whatever the standard headphone plug size is i think 2.5mm you just need a male to male cord in that size run one end to the ipod headphone out jack and one end to the aux input.

Hi Hugues - and welcome!

Yep - the AUX jack is in a rather odd location (for the driver), but makes sense if you think of the average family with iPod enabled kids etc, this way they can access the AUX socket as easily as the driver/passenger.

Don't forget to set the volume on your iPod/iPhone to give the AUX input a decent line level to amplify - and you'll be good to go.

Chris.

wow, thanks for all the answers guys.

I just checked in my car, between the 2 heated rear seat buttons there is simply some kind of empty plastic pocket. Actually i saw a picture of what you describe on another forum, mine is simply not there. No flap, no aux connector and no extra power supply. These must be coming with some kind of package i haven't bought i guess.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

Hmmm. Sounds like maybe a change for the 2009 MY? The 2005-2008 Model years have been widely criticized for having a poor audio level on the aux jack. Maybe LR did something to address this?

A good workaround is to simply hardwire an iPod connector to the back of the stereo into the aux socket. Mine is done this way, and my sound levels are on parity with the CD system.

I went home last night and actually looked for the jack. I found it right where you described.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has there been any new data or methods to hook up a smartphone to the LR3 stereo? I'm looking at LR3s and LR4s and like the LR3s more, but the Mrs insists that we have a USB hook up for our phones.

They have a audio input jack in the back of the center console. The sound quality out of that was pretty shitty in early years.

Nah, the sound is just fine if the lr3 had the upgraded audio package. I use mine all the time.

Did you read the thread? THAT is the way, the only way. Plug in the phone, push play... etc. Your phone doesn't require a usb connection to play sound. Even my new iphone 7 just plugs in so what's the issue?

You did not say this but if what you actually mean is an audio connection that also charges the phone at the same time, that's simple, it's just a kit for it. mine is like that, there's a phone connection that goes into a little 12v socket thing that has a separate audio cord then going into the 12v jack. They are easy to find.

Result, phone gets charged while playing music, or streaming via cell phone signal, wifi, etc.
