How does USAA handle a totaled / mod'ed truck?

I don't know how many of these threads I've seen... but now it's mine.

Fiance just rear-ended a Ford Escape at about 45mph. Escape came off worse for wear, and the Rovertym bumper did an excellent job protecting the rest of the Disco... but it's probably totaled. Frame ear was bent where the bumper attached, lights and grill pushed in, hood went into the glass, and I never found the front fender.

Pics will be posted when I get them... and at least I don't have to keep chasing the vibe in the back.

Any experience with USAA covering some/all the aftermarket parts? I think they do for the most part... just looking for experience before I get the call from the adjuster.

Oh yeah -- Wanted: 2004 DII, lowish miles, stock is ok.

you will get blue book dirty and no money for mods. you will have to provide receipt for any extras damaged and argue the value using current ones for sale in like condition. I wouild make them include keeping the old truck so that you can rob parts off of it. I did this once and they let me keep it for the cost of the taxes on a new car (miata, so like 400 bucks and I sold it for $1200 plus made extra on all of the aftermarket stuff I had on it)

usaa is pretty good with working with people i know Ive had friends with mod'ed cars that got there vehicles back for the parts after totaled, or at least got to pull parts. if not try to work with the company holding the vehical maybe you can ninja the worthwhile parts off the truck for some beers

wish you the best of luck!!!

p.s. im going to have my 95' coniston green disco up for sale shortly ; )

Yes be very careful with aftermarket parts If they are not listed and pics provided to the Insurance co and written approval received they have no obligation to replace them That being said usually the OEM parts are more expensive than aftermarket. In the case of a write off or theft again the mods must/should be approved by the insurer I have a stage 5 DECH stolen and when I tried to claim the engine etc their answer back was " So the car that was stolen was not the one We had insured?"

And what if you have an accident with a 200# solid steel bumper that was not approved? Say someone was injured badly in the other car??? You own/used to own your home?

Just a thought

Totalled my truck while under USAA. I actually pulled my front bumper/winch/lights off while it sat in the yard and replaced with stock. They then covered the cost of the truck based on comps and book valuations. Then the rack that was on top was covered because I was able to submit receipts and pics of rack on truck at the accident (slow roll). In the end I actually bought the truck back for $600. They were pretty good to work with in terms of coverage, but the process did drag on longer than it should've and I had to keep contacting for updates.

I have a 04 D2 SE7 that I might sell you. Not sure what you consider low mileage but it does have 93k. Only one issue, exhaust manifold is a little noisy till its fully warm.
