How long can I drive leaking oil?

Switched to syn 2 weeks ago, this morning noticed decent leak under the truck. Strange thing is, level is reading FULL. (!) Could it be xfer case or gear oil? I'm not experienced enough to know the difference by touch or smell - but it does seem to be too forward of vehicle to be xfer or gear - looks to be coming from engine. (it's definitely oil, no other fluid) But, if it is xfer or gear issue, how long could I go before doing harm? (I'm on the road & can't get to dealer.)
Thanks as always for any advice!

Its the Land Rover oil gauge. If it stops leaking you need to add oil.

actually once the oil leak has stopped , one can continue on a little further. then a little bit more and suddenly BAM, crash and grinding will be heard. a little further and come rolling to a grinding hault.
remember to check the oil levels daily as reccomended.

You could get under the truck and look. Then you could tell us what it is.

From your post it looks like that your truck is an 04'? It is leaking at 4k? Jeez - take that thing to the dealer as soon as you can and find out what the heck is going on. I mean we can all use that "it's a LR, it leaks" but come on this is an 04' with 4k. Let us know what happends.....

any chance that the oil got spilled when it was changed last? Causing a puddle of oil somewhere which found its way to the ground?

Changing to syn at 4k should not cause it to start leaking.... if you said 80k maybe, but even then new syn oil is a lot better at preventing leaks, then older syn.

I'm not worried about mine leaking, it's when it stops that I get worried and have to top it off..
