How much is too much?

Hello! I'm an old ex Disco owner who used to hang on these boards. Well, I'm back and lookin' for a defender. Question is, how much is too much to pay for a Defender in reasonable shape? I am looking at a '97, 63k miles, hardtop auto for 32k. Too much? Good price?

Yeah, right now prices are low on defenders..

97 - Desirable because its auto
63k miles - middle of the road, not considered low miles
hard top - less desirable then soft tops

With the market right now, that truck should be priced between $25-30k in my opinion.

Yeah, I was thinking he'd do 29 or 30. As for the hard top, I don't care for soft tops personally.

Thanks!

I like the 1995 at 18k. I would like it better at 14k like I paid for mine in about that condition.

If you are going to spend thirty I'd see if will tillery would let his go IMO thats the most defender you are going to get for thirty.

Shit 32k? You could probably get one as low as 25k if you look around enough...

I see all of these really high milage ones for 35k plus! That is just silly. I think these folks think we are in a good economy. But, they aren't selling. They are getting low bids and won't move.

I am now considering a Rubicon as my extreme off road toy. Seems to be way more bang for the buck. I hate to go jeep, but the Rubi's are really nice.

Go for it! I love the Rubicon. And for the price and selection of after market parts you can't go wrong.

Plus you already own a real rover. :p

rubi will loose value faster than defender... but none of us are really in this to make money right? especially if you're going to wheel it.

Also, at the end of the day, you're still in a jeep. I bought a Jeep TJ a few years ago to try to satisfy my defender craving, didn't work, so I sold it and bought a defender.

If you want to really see how a rubicon is, a lot of rental places have them.

Yep, you are right. In fact, I'm heading to San Fran tomorrow to pick her up. I said, "Screw it! I'm goin' for it!"
