See attached photo. If I drag a razor blade over the head, I can feel it "click" into a recess. Other cylinders are smooth.
2004 D2 82,000 miles, disappearing coolant. Dry compression 7/8 180, 1/8 150, not this cylinder.

Was it making the notorious rover knock? Did you find a compromised head gasket? The edge of the sleeve where it meets the block appears to be eroded away which tells me it's moving and has "failed". If you can live with the noise it will probably last a while longer.

Check the lower rad tray for coolant? Mine leaks slowly and fills up that tray.. Hard to see.. Could also be the front cover leaking and its on the oil???

But yeah it looks bad, probably is bad, but I would send it.. Not that rovers were ever built too well.. Probably been that way for 80k miles on clock.. If it were a bare block I would deck it a little and recheck.

I think one of mine looked the same when I did the heads... Said itsa fine.. Wish I had pulled block and did rings at least... NOT much engine left once you're that deep
