How to install Dixon Bate Recovery point?

I purchased a Dixon Bate recovery point for the back of my Series IIA. (see photo) The bolts provided are about 50% too short to fit from the outer frame side through to the inner. There are no access holes to only put the recovery point on the outer frame side. What is the correct way to mount it? I can easily purchase some new bolts from McMaster Carr, but I want to make sure it's supposed to go through both outer and inner pieces first.

Thanks!

The intent of those bolts are to bolt it to one of the bits that goes into a receiver hitch.

For a Series, on the rear, the common solution is to use one of the plates that bolt on and hang down a bit, then bolt that hitch to the plate.... I'll go find a pic for you....

The other option, of course, it to get longer bolts.... ;)

This is the usual tow-plate. It uses long bolts to sandwich the rear crossmember between the tow plate and its backing plate; then the attachment is bolted to the plate.

But if you don't want to sacrifice clearance, then go with longer bolts.

I 'm just sick of driving around looking for bolts etc. All the True Value stores in this are have nothing. One guy told me they only carry up to Grade 2. The closest ACE is 10 miles away which can mean 45min-1hour round trip during the times I could make it there. Home Depot seems to be the only place that even caries Grade 8, so I'll try there first. When I needed new driveshaft bolts, grade 8 w/ nylock fine thread, no one had them...I wasted many hours driving around and getting pissed off. I came home went to McMaster Carr and paid a few extra bucks. Definitely worth the peace of mind and the time savings.

This is yet one more reason why I can't wait to get out of the Boston area.

No wonder the build times on rovers are so long!
