Just wondering if anyone is in the path....staying or leaving?

Most of my family is in mandatory evacuation areas....Biloxi, MS and Pensacola, FL. Mom and grandparents (one set) are driving north...other set are leaving too. Father has to stay and help at the VA hospital.

I'm wringing my hands and trying not to worry. Thoughts go out to everyone in this situation. Atleast parts of Florida can continue to rebuild for a while.....just wish these things would stop.

I used to live down there- stationed in Ft. Walton Beach area and also a stint at Keesler in Biloxi (where the hurricane hunter planes come from). They know how to deal with these kinds of things, so lets just hope Ivan goes easy on them.
I vividly remember going to Homestead the day after Andrew leveled it. It's awe inspiring to see what nature can do. Kinda reminds you who is in charge.
The VA hospital is probably very well equipped and sturdy- it's the people driving en masse that are most at risk... because you know how they drive down there...

Steve, I was born at Keesler!

My parents and maternal g'parents lived there and stayed through Camille in 1969. But they said they didn't need to do it again. I'm just glad they are getting out and hope they (both) still have houses when they return.

Hey I'm in Metairie(A New Orleans suburb) and we're packing up and leaving. Thats some scarry s**t coming this way. They say its going to turn to the east at the last minute but I would hate to put my life on that. We're heading to Baton Rouge and if it looks like BR is going to take a hit we'll head to Lafayette. Right now we're just killing time waiting for the traffic to ease up a bit. Every road out of town is a parking lot. The state police have reversed traffic on most of the in-bound interstates to make it easier to get the hell out of dodge. Glad I have a snorkel on my Disco.

Last time it was McDill... If you're talking about P3s and Gulf IV.

Not the P3's- the C130's... 53rd weather recon squadron.
I never got a ride on one while I was there, but boy did I want to... I wasn't there all that long and we didn't have any major storms while I was there. Rumour has it that the whole area has improved a LOT since gambling brought in some cash.
I got married in Biloxi on the pier- had the church thing later, but I was shipping out and she wanted to move things up. Lotsa memories of that area.
You folks down there be careful...

Greetings from Ivan! It is not to bad, yet. The worst part is the waiting.

Post Ivan is pretty bad. Although we have power where I am located the rest of Okaloosa county is pretty bad off. The beast has been having a leaky windshield problem, but when confronted with a hurricane it did not leak go figure. I guess I will hunker down and wait for the next one. The house now has a leaking problem.

I got to see two funnel clouds because of Ivan remnants... Always thought it would be more entertaining and less scary than it is in real life. Missed my house by a fairly narrow margin- just three blocks or so away is some major damage. My house only got minor wind/debris damage.
Hope everyone else got through it ok-

Here we go again

Well, after riding the storm out in our bathroom only 30 miles away from the eye of Charley as it passed by, and evacuating the state for both Frances and for Ivan, I can't say I'm happy to see that Jeanne is coming this way.
