The lady said I'm giving P0308 and P1314 codes. The description is cylinder 8 misfire detected. The thing runs fine w/ no check or service engine light.

About 6 months ago I had to change a spark plug because the damned end had broken off. It was running rough as hell at that time and smoothed out after I replaced the plug and wire. I prolly have about 40K on the plugs now (I know, I know, every 10K on these things). Do you think if I clear the codes and replace my plugs that it'd pass???

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do I clear by simply disconnecting battery for 10 min? Isn't there some red button under the hood you push??? I don't remember, any help would be great.

Lynden, I take it you have an OBD-2 Disco - in which case the codes will not be erased after you disconnect the battery. You can stop by your nearest Autozone - they will clear the codes for you - but, it will take the ECU some time to run all its internal checks and declare all good. Before this happens, the ECU will tell the smog check computer that not all of the internal tests have passed, and, depending on your smog regulations, they may still fail you (guess how I know?).

Speaking of spark plugs - I've changed mine just for the heck of it, at 110kmi; the last known to me change of spark plugs occured near 55kmi. The plugs came out squeaky clean, with barely light tan on the insulators. I have not changed plugs since (at 169kmi), and there's no misfires or any other [ignition-related] problems, Disco runs very clean.

thanks. One of the codes was cyl 8 misfire/bad cat. I hope to hell I don't have bad cats. I've already passed the 80K mark so I can't get them replaced and i don't want to spend the $$$.
