I saw a 99 Disco at a used car dealership. I call the guy and he wants $6995 with 105,000 on it. It looks very clean and he said he put $2k into it ie: valve cover gasket, tranny gasket and had sun roof rebuilt and other things. It's got brand 4 new BFG AT and paint is flawless as well as interior. Are there any areas I should look at specifically if I go look at it ? I also asked if he would sign it out and let me take it to a Rover dealership for a once over and his reply "It'll never happen". I then said what are you hiding and he said nothing. Huh he is a used car salesmen. He is a local guy and said he"ll work with me if I have a problem but it comes with no warranty because in the state of CT any vehicle older than 02 you don't have to warranty. I was also told there is some wiggle room in the price. I hate buying used cars:banghead:

If he won't let you have it checked out, walk away. It's not that it's mandatory, I didn't have mine checked out, but the fact that he wouldn't let you...

"He'll work with you"... yeah. He'll work to get more of your money when you come back with problems.

I see them in craigslist for less with same or less miles. There's one around here that lad a little over 100k the guy's down to $2500. Dealer here has one with around 100k for $4k, that price is way too high, especially if they won't let you check it out.

Thanks fordbuilder I fixed it. Yeah I don't like that either and I decided to walk away. I found a 2000 with 61,000 for $10k with a 30 day/3000 mile warranty at another dealer. I'd rather spend the extra cash for a vehicle with less miles and warraty. Atleast this guy will stand behind his vehicles.

Some Rover dealers won't do pre-sale inspection checks, the one in Atlanta won't. That may be what he meant. If he meant he won't let you get it checked out, that's when I'd say, "Ok, bye." No discussion, period!

BTW, your thread title should have told you this belongs in the General section.

X2 - Look around regionally as well. In Georgia, I paid $5000 cash (drive out) for my '99 D1 with ~100K in 2006. I admit I got a great deal and there were simple things wrong that I knew were easy fixes (rear door lock frozen, a rear door lock actuator), but these made it hard to sell without fixing them.

Bottom line - I'd look around regionally... Especially in the South, below the salt-snow line, and see what you can find. The prices you're listing are higher than what I typically see down here. If I could save over a grand, I'd happily fly in look it over and drive it home if I liked it and it checked out OK. We actually helped a friend buy a VW Thing in Texas this way by making it a roadtrip weekend!

Antichrist, hence the title. I figured it would get more eyes here than in the general forum that's why I posted it here. I also figured if moderators didn't approve it would be moved but thanks for pointing it out.

bleizit, I applied for a small loan and then I'll go from there. That way I know the price range I can look in. I wanted to pay cash but not much snow this year.

Oh, it makes perfect sense now. You knew it didn't belong here, but you figured that the moderators needed more work. :banghead:

What I KNEW is that it would get the most EXPOSURE here and that's what I was after. Kinda like selling a car on a dead end street vs a main drag. Get the idea. I was looking for input NOT SARCASM !!!

To answer your question I do believe he meant "no you can check it out" either way I'm walking away. He did say it's the cleanest one I'd find but I told him that I doubt that.
