This just a parts truck but I want to get it running so that I know what parts are good and what parts are bad.

Im told it just needs a fuel pump.....

When I had pump issues recently, this is what I learned,
OEM, about $1200
Aftermarket good, $500
Aftermarket of questionable quality $300
Sending unit plus your own labor, $60 (good write ups here, should take no more than 30 minutes)

For what is worth, in my experience, two times out of two, the real problem was the pump wiring harness
Good to hear about alternative experience.
My personal record - four times out of five, it was the pump. One time out of five, it was the pump AND pump wiring harness...
I hope the shop guys chime in.

Those pumps fail all the time, but I've also seen a handful of times where the harness was the problem. There is a connector near the left rear wheel well that gets corroded IIRC. If I've seen it a few times, it is probably pretty common, since those trucks stopped coming to the dealership a long time ago.

Just this morning I bought two fuel pumps from Tillery. One for my 1998 Disco, one for my RRC. His price beat anything else I'd seen and in the 8 years I've been buying parts from him nothing has disappointed.
