My patagonia Synchilla has a big hole in the arm, several burns, and I've "grown" a little so it's been getting kind of tight anyways. So, its time for a new one. I've had the damn thing for 3 years and I wear it constantly.

Anybody have a fleece that they just can't live without. One of their favorite pieces of clothing? Im not a brand snob but, I do like quality stuff.

I tend to wear either my Synchilla or my Conduit everywhere....business, casual, camping, taking dog out, rain, cold, parties, downtown...just where the hell ever I go.

So, what do you guys think? Thanks.

Have had the same North Face windwall one for a number of years and it has held up great. Definitely my favorite fleece just because of the way it feels, wears and lasts.

Fleece is fleece; it's all made in China by the same children.
I have a "Remington" windstopper fleece that I got at walmart for $12 and it's great. Funny thing is, the "Winchester" ones looked exactly the same.

I also have a "North 49" fleece jacket that is part of a 3-in-1 parka. I got it at Canadian Tire cheap. One thing I like about it is the sleeves have a nylon liner sewn in to prevent things like sweaters and flannel from bunching up when donning the jacket.

I hate the North Face jackets with the logo on the back shoulder in addition to the "normal" location (left boob). The back logo makes it look like everyone is buying the jacket off the "select imperfects" rack at the North Face outlet.
I have one of the pre-stupid logo versions. I like that one, but actually wear my Remington more because of the windstopping.

There are many types of fleece, you are uninformed and should quit contributing to this thread.

To the original poster. I know you are looking for an everyday fleece. do you want a pull over or a jacket?

My favorite fleece is the windstopper tech by mountain hardwear and I have owned it since 2003. It still is kickin pretty well but I have started buying more Patagonia fleece because I get pretty good deals on it through friends. I think the warmest fleece I have ever bought is my arc-teryx pullover and keeps me so hot I sweat here with these mild new orleans weather.

Purchased my NorthFace Polartec fleece jacket back in 2000. It has endured many harsh environments and has held up very well. Highly recommend NorthFace gear.

Screw fleece.. Get a nice primaloft jacket.. I have the mountain hardware compressor and its my favorite "warmth layer" jacket. Since Its not for alpine use, I went with primaloft since it still offers warmth when its wet, unlike goose down.. If it rains, I throw on the goretex paclite shell.. DONE.

Ill probably go for a pullover half zip or button...I've had a bunch of fleece jackets and they always seem to bulge at the bottom when Im sitting.

Just something that looks good with a button up or tshirt, is warm, can take a beating on the weekend and still look decent on Monday with Khaki's.

I probably won't be going with North Face, I belive their quality has gone down in recent years...and I think "Vanity Fair" owns them now. Besides, middle school girls love North Face. I actually don't own a single piece of it.

Hubby and I both have Mt. Hardwear windstopper tech jackets that we bought when I worked at an outdoor store in college--early 00s. Great warmth, have worn well, and they are pretty easy to keep hair/fur off.

However, I tend to wear my soft-shell more just because of the smooth outer surface. It's from EMS. Not the best but it was on super sale and has been nice for just running around town. Ivan has a soft-shell from LLBean that he says is as warm or warmer than his MHW! He also prefers the smooth 'look' if he's wearing nice clothes with it.

I have a Patagonia synchilla vest that I wear every day and love--but I wash it once a week just because the hair it attracts really bothers me. I think a Patagonia Retro-x or R-series fleece will be my next. Send your old fleece back to Patagonia for recycling too!

I've heard good things about Arc'teryx items.

Sierratradingpost.com is always a great place to look for deals.

I have been pleased with my mnt hardwear monkey man pullover. I like the elastic sides for breath ability and stretch, as well as the thumb holes to keep it from sliding up the arm. However its a warm fleece, maybe too warm.

I also own the various version of the R1, R2 and R3 fleece jackets from patagucci. R2 is most practice for everyday. The R3 is warm like the the monkey man. R1 is great because its super breathable but wind cuts right through it.

There are certainly different grades of fleece!

Malden Mills is the originator of what we call synthetic "fleece". They and Patagonia pioneered it's use and design. At one time Malden Mills was the sole supplier for Patagonia. It's now of course called "Polartec" and every reputable clothing company uses it. TNF, Patagucci, MTN Hardware, and AT all have there own designs sometimes with some "tweeks" here and there, (re: the Patagucci's "R" stuff..), but all of the aforementioned use 100, 200, and 300 weight Polartec.

I have an old Patagonia Retro X that I love and it's been beat to hell! (The "X" stands for windproof). The 'Gucci Retro Cardigan is always a "best buy"! It was the granddaddy of all fleece jackets. Hell, if it's made of Polartec 200 weight and has a YKK zipper of some sort, it's a good jacket.

Fleece is only good under a windstopper shell...or in spring when it is warmer.

Go with the tech jackets they have out now...more versatile and warmer.

I have two from Peak....North Face has a good one too.
