okay...update!
After spending half the day at the shop talking with a pro fabricator and pulling A arms off, etc.... it will cost in the neighborhood (to do it right) of 30k. This guy has engineered desert trucks for Terrible Herbst and various other desert racing teams, so I trust him and I admire his work. We also talked about changing to solid axle, it can be done, but its not what I want to do. I still want this truck to be a MK3 RR, and I feel that changing the whole suspension concept would discount the truck as a whole. All of the wheels will stick out condiserably more, thats just the nature of the beast. I am thinking about getting some custom made fender flares or maybe whole new fenders.

This truck truly is a screamin deal, out here in California, especially around where I live Range Rovers go for top dollar and are highly sought after. This truck is in literally showroom condition....inside and out, top to bottom. The previous owner even changed out the front leather on the seats for brand new leather (ordered straight from LR) about 7k miles ago, just because he is anal about how it looks.

I am at this point planning on spenking about 40k plus the truck for my inital investment. I am going to sleep on this over the weekend and make my final decisions on Tuesday. Thanks for all the input!

I am all for keeping it independent and MKIII-ish because a nice independent baja inspired suspension is just as good as solid axles, however you are prettymuch fucked in terms of drivetrain . If you want a MKIII, do solid axles or you will regret it

He's got a nice looking bumper and some steelies, doesnt look like he has any suspension work though. You have any more links for pics of his truck? Any contact info?

get a D-90, trick it out and call it a day

But if you really want to do this srew IFS, get some solid axles with lockers and run some 35's. That would be sick

Tuesday has come and gone, so what's the final decision? re you going to tell all the nay-sayers to get bent and build a sick Rangie, or are you going to just wheel it stock?

What's so "built" about it?

FWIW, a bone-stock Mk3 RR can do Dishpan Springs/Deep Creek uphill, with no damage. I believe if you do what you plan to, you _will_ end up with a completely fucked up truck.
But you'll be a member of a very privileged club of people who never leave home without Rovacom.

built man.. it has bumpers and a winch ;)

i think what that guy did is basically the extent of what one would want to do with the mk3. theres just to much wizardry going on in there to make it a viable trail platform.

i suggest that you keep building that p38 in your avatar and keep the mk3 on the street. as complicated as p38s are, they are like a willys wagon compared to an mk3

etc, i wanted to do a mk3 as well.. but realized i should just put a 5" lift on my p38 and rock some 35's... and just sport an '07 bone stock white on white mk3 with painted grills and fins... I ruined one perfectly good truck allready, no reason to take it to the next level.. heh. Good luck if you do decide to do it.. i think it'll be a big headache tho

sorry for leaving you guys hanging so long, I took off on a last minute trip to Mammoth to do some skiing and snowmobiling! (I am still here acutually :D )
The fab guy wont be able to even start on my project for about 2-3 months, so I passed on the truck purchase for now. I will continue to scour the market for an even better deal since others here stated that I could find one cheaper. The cheaper the truck the more $$ will be allocated to the upgrades  . I will keep you guys updated and my goal is to be the first guy with a very controversal truck!

I personally wouldnt bother with a new RR. They are very capable off road stock but too many electronics for me. Hell even my 89 RRC has too many damn electronic gismos. I personally would build a hybrid on portals if money was no object. Instead Im just getting started on a CB hybrid project. I figure it will run me around 5k tops counting the series I just bought for 550 bucks. Thankfully Ive got a 'built' classic to start with and an extra frame to get ready before I tear apart the classic. For the kind of money your talking about you could build one heck of a hybrid or buy that RRC on portals that was on ebay for 25k and still buy another new RR to tool around stock. Gordo.

I agree with gordo, get a classic and trick it out. But if your really set on building up a MKIII why not put portals on your P38 and use the MKIII for street

A MKIII is soo much nicer on the inside and would make a great vehicle that you could road trip /off-road in. If you already have a p38 then you should already have a Rovacom which shouldn't be a problem. :) Hell, you might even have fewer problems plus it kicks ass off-road with some sliders and good protection.
