I finally had to replace the head gaskets on my 95 D1 at 195k. In the process of pulling it down the hose from the IACV to the throttle broke - it was original to the truck so no surprise. My question is: do I really need to order the specific hose (ETC7874) or can I just get some by-the-foot hose from AutoZone, cut to size, and clamp it? Same question for the low pressure power steering hose.

the trouble with that hose is that the ends are different sizes. the end into the valve cover is slightly larger

I just used some 5/8 fuel injection line (if memory servers me correctly) and secured it with some nice SS hose clamps.

At oen point I used off the shelf hose but it would buckle and collapse at the 90. Theres some spring that NAPA had that goes over hose that I used to keep that from happening.

The line I'm using is by Gates, and it's very thick due to the layers in it. No buckling or collapsing yet. I agree though thinner hose could have some serious issues.

I got some fancy red hose from Advance Auto that's working just fine and looks extra dope - although honestly it wasn't any cheaper than just buying the hose from AB or RoversNorth so if I did it again I'd just buy the hose from them. Now I just have to fix the leaking fuel line.

Thanks as always!
