the tech that comes in to work on our fork lifts swears by the icon line . he added that the fact he can get a replacement anytime 7 days a week is a huge plus .

I've been buying Icon tools at HF for a while now. Not just wrenches - their snap-ring plier sets are better than anything I've used before (barring S&K and Snap-On).
This thing is an absolute darling to have in a vehicle - especially a Grenadier with its love to Torx screws.

Besides Icon, a Quinn socket set is a good choice for a trail tool set (when tools get borrowed and lost).

Years ago I ponied up for a Snap-On 3/8" drive ratchet and socket set. Just a simple 7-inch ratchet and a row of 8 sockets on a metal clip, no fancy case or anything. Don't remember what I paid but it must have been about $200 or more. I also have a set of 8-piece metric and 10-piece SAE combination wrenches that I bought off an employee about 10 years ago for $90 each when he needed some fast cash one day. Those sets are a few hundred each. They are nice tools but worth no where near a nice little stack of hundreds. The ratchet has been giving me problems the past couple years, very difficult to get it to reverse with the little switch. My old Craftsman (US made) 3/8" ratchet never gave me a problem but I lent it to someone ages ago and it never came back. I've been wanting a 1/2" drive ratchet so maybe I'll pick up one of these Icons.

All my 3/8 sockets and four of my socket wrenches are Gearwrench. My 1/4” 88 tooth drive broke last year, it was at least 5-6 years old. Emailed gearwrench, sent me a new one (90 tooth!) no questions asked. IIRC all the wrenches are made in the USA.

I’m not a pro, but have used lots of Mac and Snap On stuff. Never saw the draw.

I'm going to make an unsubstantiated claim here.....Snap-On's reputation and coffers are mainly supported by the guys working paycheck to paycheck. Their monthly paycheck budgets look something like this: $1500 rent, $500 car payment, $400 child support, $250 utilities, $100 iphone, $50 apple watch, $100 clothes, $400 food, $400 entertainment, $100 financed tattoo payment, $267.49 financed Snap-On tool box payment.

Icon....you all are fancy. Pittsburg all the way....just had a 15 year old ratchet wrench replaced for free the other day. Was a slightly different size so it doesn't quite match the set, but who cares?

I don’t know if that thing works the same way as the clubs I’ve used helping kids. I hate the fact that the lever for changing direction works the opposite of a snap-on ratchet. If you have to get your hand on the head of the ratchet to hold it on or keep the socket from turning that fucker will change direction on you. It’s aggravating as hell.
