Everyday for the last 2 or so years I drive past this truck semi-abandoned in a field down the road. Finally I got a camera and took some pics, can anyone identify what year, model etc? Series II something, maybe?

Would this have a number somewhere similar to a VIN?

IIa has the tire on the hood....is it Series III that has the tire on the back door? Am I generalizing too much? There is an abandoned (supposedly) Series in a field down the road from us that I keep looking at....it's cream colored with the tropical roof and the tire on the back. Photos are in my cell, but not on the computer.

Do you know who owns that one? Could be a nice project...or at least a flower pot! ;)

Where do you live and will you help me put it on the trailer when I get there?

For the VIN, it is on the metal plate rivetted to the center of the lower dash in front of the gear shift.

And it appears to be a late '60's IIa, probably '66 or '67 -- the hood may be newer. The VIN plate should also identify the year and model.

If I can talk the guy into giving it to me gratis, I would be hard pressed to refuse. I've heard he can be an a-hole, but he's been trying to sell the property so maybe he'll want the "abandoned" vehicle removed. I haven't seen him there in a while, but when I do, I will at least stop to chat and inquire. I'll let you know, I am in Idaho so it is not impossible for you in Oregon.

Here is the center dash, no number there but the 2 holes may indicate the plate has been removed?

Just hitting 53,000 miles ;)

Hmm, cell pics are too fuzzy to tell. I *think* it has lights ON the wings, but I'll look later tonight.

Oh, as I look at pics online, seems like the tire location doesn't matter...sorry!

Pre-1967 SIIA - probably 64-66 - wiper motors mounted on the windshield

The Deluxe hood off a 109 was probably added later.

It's had the Rochester carb conversion done - if its not too rusty it looks liek a nice one - go for it!

Indeed, it was probably running a few years back, I am going to take a closer look eventually. The only thing inside the truck was a bottle of coolant so I assume it was cooling issues that got it parked and now abandoned.

I concur, the individual wiper motors keep it from being too recent out of the IIa line, but the levers to open the vents, as opposed to round screw knobs, make it a IIa as opposed to a II. I'd need more to get more specific than '61-'66 or so.

Sus,
Doesn't matter, a IIa or a III could have the spare on the rear door, the bonnet, or behind the front seats.

I bought my first rover, a '65 IIa with the same type of utility top as that one, for $3900 in drivable condition. Unless you spend A LOT of money on them, they should be considered hobby trucks -- although I did use mine as a daily driver for about 4 months in stock condition!

They are really, really fun hobby trucks, and can be made into "reliable" weekenders even with much of the truck still in stock condition.

The number plate should be below the speedo, I can see one of the two plates in the last photo you posted -- down and to the left. I think the red one is the instructions for using 4x4 and low range gears, the black one should have the numbers.

Except for rust, that looks like a good truck.
