1994 RRC, was driving trails today, and smelled something burning so I stopped, opened the hood, and there was a bunch of black tar type stuff all around the ignition coil. The coil itself was really hot, and it looked like it had been spewing this stuff for a little while. The truck actually ran fine all day, got me home, never had any other issues. It stopped spewing out the tar, but there is quite a large blob just under the end where the coil wire hooks up. So I need a new one, what can I get locally tomorrow? I know I can order an OEM from AB, but I kind of need to shop for a temporary replacement rightnow. Also, what would make a coil do this?

people swear by the oem coil, but a bosch or accel external coil should get you through until a replacement can make it from your supplier of choice.

Dunno if your coil developed a crack or what, but the lack of teh black goo could cause your coil to short out and kill the spark.
