I'm a dipstick

I feel like a dipstick for having to ask this, but I keep having problems checking the oil with the dipstick. It seems like it is a tight/awkward fit and I can never get a good read on it. To me it looks like the dipstick is dragging on the tube so when I pull it out I can't really tell what the level out.

Is that just me having problems reading it, or could something be misaligned?

Read the lowest dry spot as the true level. If you're really blind, wipe it off, carb cleaner it, and wipe it off again, then dip and take a reading.

I've noticed that when adding or changing oil you should have the end of the dip stick elevated or out of the tube. Otherwise there will be oil all up one side of it or both giving no clear reading.

Add or fill the oil then put the dip stick in and read it.
