Full roll cage, NAS motor, and it would have to pass emissions and DoT. Good luck with that. They people at the ports dont play around. Also, make goooood friends with the customs agent and get a shipping agent to do the paper work. You can get around the shipping agent but, its such a pain in the ass and you'll spend hours and hours worth of time making phone calls and proving you're doing it right.
It being a 1993 D110 I thought all you would have to do is add the roll cage and import it into a state where the smog rule was only 10 years. Or something to that affect. I didn't think the engine would matter unless it was coming into Ca where it's 1975 for smog regardless.
There's a list of things that need to be changed, every where from roll cage to side mirrors to turn signals .. read this thread: http://www.d-90.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10844 .. the links to nhtsa.dot.gov have all the info you need.
I'm heading back to Madrid in a couple of weeks and was looking at the prices of trucks in Spain. I used the Google translator and did a search for Defenders. This is what I came up with.
