Ok, I can't stand these pesky leaks anymore on my 95 D1 so I bought the gaskets to reseal the valve covers, timing chain cover and intake manifold valley. Also going to do the pan. I have degreased and made sure of the origins of the leaks and bought quality stuff. I have a backgound in German cars Porsche/BMW and Audi ( was a factory train mech for about 8 years) it looks straight forward but wanted input from the board on any potential problems I may face.

Thanks in advance Andy 95 D1 :D

pretty straight forward.. after cleaning contact points, some hylomar or rtv will help gaskets set in place....

Do not put any RTV on the rubber valve cover gaskets, only tighten the bolts at 8 Nm.
You should put some RTV only on both ends of the front and rear rubber gaskets of the intake maniold. Apply the RTV only below the rubber gaskets at the corners between the cylinder heads and the engine block. Only use high temperature RTV.
You can use some RTV on the timing chain gasket if your gasket is a paper one. LR also supply a new timing chain gasket which on one side has a sort of soft rubber line along the border of the gasket. If using this type of gasket, do not use RTV. The bolts holding the timing cover to the block should be tightened at 22 Nm.
If you have never changed your timing chain on your 95 Disco, you might want to have a look at it now that you are taking off the timing chain cover. It might have a lot of slack and it would be better to replace it. Also have a look at the upper plastic timing gear connected to the camshaft.

Knowing too much and slammed by Oil Changers

Andrew, be careful as you are a mechanic with a background with real german vehicles, not Rover crap. Mr. "Jiffy Lube" marc olivares will get pissed as you have training beyond "Drain Plug 1 A. What the hell are you doing with a "Limey Looser"? Aviation mechanic stuck with a money pit Rover also. Better to part the crap out than sell whole, after 5 years of unreliable, oil, water leaks, mechanical failures, don't forget electrical CRAP, windows, ABS, radio, door locks, brake lights, ECU. Shorter to state whats right.

Judging from recent posts on the Land Rover section of Pirate4x4.org, this is just another meathead jackass trying to see how quick he gets banned.

Or he's just crazy.

Wow some good advise and some controversy along with a new nic name for a d-web member. I don't deny that rovers have had their problems but the Germans have had their share as well. remember unintended accelration and the infamous Audi 5000. And remember I made a decent living fixing BMWs. So I am careful not to pass judgement on other marks before I have spent time behind the wheel or under the hood. And so far I haven't seen an X-5 or Porsche SUV on any trails. The fact that Porsche made and SUV makes me mad, whos next Ferrari. :)

Cheers, Andy 95 D1
