Hi-

Searched the archives, but I guess I haven't phrased the question correctly......

Anybody have any hints on installing the newer cold weather update PROM in the ECM for a 95 Disco??

I recently had a thread on hot starting problems and resolved those problems- but LR had an update with new starter, cables, etc. that includes a new PROM chip ......

I have the new PROM chip, but know you have to be very careful with static electricity, or you fry it, and the ECM = Big $$$......

Any help from those who have done it- removing the ECM, opening it, chip install, etc....

thanks-

I did the upgrade, and didn't take any special precautions...

I disconnected the battery ground. Other than that, didn't do anything special. Just extracted the ecu box from behind the dash, took it into the kitchen, took the case apart, removed the old chip and slipped in the new, boxed it back up, and then out to the car for the re-install and hooked up the battery ground.

I didn't use any funky grounding strap... I never use them when building/upgrading my computers, why should the Rover get any special treatment?

It is amazing how sturdy these ECMs are. I personally swapped many of thse Proms in the shop without problem. Also, I have even seen them installed backwards...Powered up, then reinstalled without problem.

After you install it, Make sure the Check engine light goes on during bulb check. That is a self check for the ECM. If the Check engine light isn't on in position 2, the comupter isn't passing itsself and you may have a plug not attached all the way or the Prom in backwards.

If the Check engine light comes on, and goes out when running..... All good!
